Art (GAFA, 2015) and an MSc in Innovative Multimedia Entertainment from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2024). Based in Hong Kong, her work spans interactive installations, VR, and AI-generated art, exploring the intersection of technology, culture, and human experience. From 2016 to 2018, OuYang established herself as a freelance illustrator, crafting dark, stylized works that delved into human forms, abstract figures, and raw emotion. Her unique aesthetic secured her a coveted spot at the 2017 Singularity Plan Art Festival, a renowned showcase for emerging illustrators and comic artists in China. During this period, she collaborated with fashion brands like UARE (Frozen Pear Series), the NGO "For Blue," and the MIDI Music Festival, integrating art with cultural and social narratives through workshops and commercial commissions. In 2019, OuYang joined V Studio, marking a shift toward parametric design and code-generated art for immersive installations. Collaborating with globally recognized artists such as Cyril Lancelin and Julius Horsthuis, she contributed to standout projects, including partnerships with the Chinese sci-fi IP Three-Body Problem and Japan’s teamLab. Her innovative installations, such as Tree of Life at the China Science and Technology Museum (2021) and the Shenzhen Airport Terminal Commercial Guidance System ​(2022), exemplify her ability to merge interactive new-media with public engagement. Since 2022, OuYang has harnessed AI tools and extended reality (XR) to redefine artistic boundaries. She recently contributed to the PolyU-NVIDIA Joint Research Centre’s VR Cognitive Training Project (2025) as a Research Assistant, supporting experimental research in VR-based cognitive training. Her work has been showcased in exhibitions across London (FUTURE CAVE, 2023), Riyadh (Masaha Art Residency, 2024), and Shanghai (Beyond Gravity, 2022). As Hakka sisters raised in walled villages, users relive 1970s communal life. Guided by AI companion "Zong Zai", they reconstruct traditions by assembling fragmented memories. OuYangs work reflects her exposure to digital language evolution in China, while notin the global occurrence of new communication methods. Language, like flowing water, perpetually moves and surges forward, bypassing obstacle through its natural course. OuYang's use of Chinese local cartography acts as a visual analogy of human resilience, drawing parallels between the evolving landscape and humanitys evolving methods of communication.This project manifests through fabric installations, audio, and augmented reality (AR) spaces. Audiences are invited to engage with the coded words generated through anonymous crowd sourced data. Background Research Plant cell differentiation into different organs involves the interplay of various cell types and tissues. Plant tissues are categorized into meristematic tissue (similar to animal stem cells, responsible for new growth) and permanent tissue (comprising cells that have stopped dividing). These tissues differentiate into three main types: dermal (covering and protecting the plant), vascular (transporting water, minerals, and sugars), and ground tissue (performing functions like photosynthesis, structural support, and storage). Specific cell types within these tissues contribute to the formation of organs like roots, stems, and leaves. The decision for a plant cell to grow into meristematic or permanent tissue is governed by the cell's location and the developmental signals it receives. Meristematic tissue, like stem cells in animals, is responsible for new growth and is undifferentiated, meaning these cells can develop into various cell types. In contrast, cells in permanent tissue have differentiated and specialized based on the plant's needs in that particular location, thus no longer dividing actively. This differentiation is a complex process influenced by genetic and environmental factors. * I learned from studying plant cell differentiation that just as genetics, environmental factors, and developmental signals shape plant cells into different tissues, these same factors shape human sexual orientation and gender identity. Plant cell diversity and queer identities share a common importance in understanding human society. The different types and morphologies of plant cells determine their growth, development, and function, allowing them to effectively adapt to different environments. Likewise, queer identity encompasses various sexual orientations, such as gay or bisexual, and different gender identities, such as transgender or non-binary. This diversity reflects the resonance between biodiversity and diversity of identities in nature and in human societies. In a diverse and inclusive social environment, individuals are more free to explore and express their identities, much like how a diverse environment promotes plant growth and development. Artistic CreationIn order to highlight the connection between plant cells and queer identity in my work, I believe that two crucial visual elements are needed to represent them. For queer identity, I thought a face would serve as a classic visual focal point to express identity, so I utilized AI tool Midjourney to merge some queer portraits with the four natural elements - earth, water, wind, and fire. The outcome is a collection of character images that could potentially exist in the future. Each image represents an individual with distinct and robust personalities. As for how to express plant cells, I referenced a tutorial on the work of digital artist PPPANIK, which mimics the growth and development of vibrant plant cells through the constant generation of numerous thin lines. Based on the four natural elements represented by the four characters, I adjusted the color and frequency of the generated lines for each part. In terms of overall editing, I used the portrait as a static layer to contrast with the superimposed dynamic lines, and selected relatively dynamic background music to set off the visual elements. By doing this, I aim to use the transportation process of water and inorganic salts between plant cells as a metaphor to suggest the delicate link between queer identity and plant cells. Having a personal connection with this theme, I employ digital art techniques to blend queer portraits with natural elements.
